009: a Master of Ambience

009 is a producer from Boston, MA, who has some of the most underrated beats. Every song in his discography is unique in its own way, but one thing remains the same throughout; his ambiance. The ambiance is a sound that producers have been striving for over the last few years, and 009 has shown that he has mastered it.

To create an excellent ambient beat, there are a few foundations you have to establish. The first and most apparent is a low bass. The bass should be heavy-hitting, but it shouldn’t overpower the melody. By making it melancholic, 009 creates this ominous but enticing feeling that gets the listener to enjoy the rest of his beat. On top of the bass, one must choose an equally low melody. The melody should match the ominous feeling but shine through a little brighter. It shouldn’t completely negate the bass but instead, aid it. Finally, the elements should be helping hands to one another.

One perfect example is his song, “Echo.”

It’s a slow-tempo song with the features mentioned before. However, one thing that the beat should have is that spacey/floating feeling. A piece like “Echo” executes that perfectly. For the entirety of the beat, the listener is stuck in a slow head-bob and feels like they could be underwater. Throughout a majority of his discography, 009 envelops the listener in this feeling and does so seamlessly.

This isn’t to say that 009 is strictly limited to making great ambient beats. He can also create high-intensity music, mid-toned music, and so much more.
